FIB Unhas — The Sunday morning sky (Dec 7, 2025) in Tamalanrea was clear as the courtyard of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) at Universitas Hasanuddin began to fill with a sea of people. Hundreds of participants, ranging from university leaders and alumni from various generations to new students, gathered at the starting line from 06:00 AM Central Indonesian Time (WITA). They prepared to tackle the route around the campus for the Fun Walk, a sweet conclusion to the series of celebrations for the 65th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) of FIB Unhas.
This event was not just an ordinary casual walk. Unhas Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., who attended alongside the Vice Rectors, provided a strong cultural touch after participating in the campus walk. The man affectionately known as Prof. JJ did not merely deliver a formal speech; he took the stage to recite a poem he composed himself. “Ancestral heritage is an eternal value,” he chanted, appreciating the solidarity of the FIB community, who that morning fluently sang the faculty march.
However, the peak of the morning’s excitement occurred at the main stage during the door prize distribution session. Unlike conventional draws that rely on torn paper coupons, the committee implemented a digital system that was more transparent and modern. All participants who had registered via Google Form waited with bated breath as their names were shuffled using an online spin application on the big screen.
Tension peaked when the name-spinning application was run to determine the owner of the grand prize: a motorcycle. Cheers erupted when the digital wheel stopped right on the name of a student from the Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture (BMKT) Study Program. The unexpected fortune was welcomed with thunderous applause from their peers.
Amidst the euphoria of the motorcycle prize and dozens of other consolation prizes, the humanist side of the event was strictly maintained. The committee also provided prizes in the form of tuition-free scholarships (UKT) for one semester. The Chairperson of the Anniversary Committee, Hasbi Lodang, S.S., stated that this initiative was born from collective concern.
“We see students who have to withdraw because they cannot afford tuition fees. This is a moral responsibility,” he said. Through a blend of digital draw technology, communal dancing, and tangible care through scholarships, the FIB Unhas Fun Walk affirmed that the anniversary celebration was not just a party. It was a moment to strengthen humanitarian solidarity within the academic environment.
