Accelerating Scientific Publication: FIB Unhas Holds ‘Writing Clinic’ and Dissects Students’ Draft Articles

FIB Unhas — Breaking into reputable international journals is often a distinct challenge for university students. Responding to this reality, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) at Hasanuddin University organized a Writing Clinic. Held at the FIB Unhas Senate Meeting Room, this intensive session took place on Thursday (April 9, 2026) from 1.00 PM to 4.00 PM Central Indonesian Time (WITA).

Designed to boost the publication quality of the academic community, the event opened with a presentation of objectives and expectations by the Vice Dean for Partnership, Research, Innovation, and Alumni of FIB Unhas, Dr. Wahyuddin, S.S., M.Hum. Rather than merely providing theoretical input, the forum immediately delved into the tactical aspects of research preparation.

A crucial strategy was shared by the Head of the Quality Assurance and Reputation Enhancement Task Force of FIB Unhas, Dr. Fierenziana G. Junus, S.S., M.Hum. She revealed the procedure for accessing high-quality literature for free through the ScienceDirect database. This convenient access can be fully utilized by students simply by using the Wi-Fi network and their Hasanuddin University accounts, as the institution is officially subscribed.

The forum’s dynamic truly came alive when Prof. Drs. Burhanuddin Arafah, M.Hum., Ph.D., a researcher and Professor at FIB Unhas, took over the session. Setting aside rigid slide presentations, he used one of the participants’ draft articles as a case study “patient”. Through this manuscript dissection, postgraduate students were treated to a live review simulation—witnessing firsthand how an academic with a track record of dozens of articles in reputable international journals scrutinizes the viability of a piece of writing.

Guided by Drs. Dias Pradadimara, M.A. as the moderator, the discussion session thoroughly unpacked techniques for selecting references for Literature Reviews, while also referring to feedback from previous articles relevant to the participants’ drafts. In his capacity as the Publication Manager of FIB Unhas, he extended an open invitation at the end of the event.

“Our doors are always wide open. For students who need a casual discussion partner outside this forum regarding journal articles, undergraduate theses, master’s theses, or dissertations, please come to us,” he stated, reaffirming the commitment to continuous mentoring for young researchers within FIB Unhas.
