FIB Unhas – The Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin, has taken a strategic step in its bureaucratic reform efforts by holding an Integrity Zone (ZI) Socialization. The event took place at the Prof. Mattulada Hall on Wednesday (5/11/2025), attended by faculty leadership, lecturers, educational staff, and student representatives.
The socialization, led directly by the Dean of FIB Unhas, aimed to build a shared commitment and understanding to achieve the “Corruption-Free Area” (WBK) predicate and, one year thereafter, the “Clean and Serving Bureaucracy Area” (WBBM) predicate.
The speaker for the socialization, Ishaq Rahman, S.IP., M.Si., Head of the Public Relations Office of Universitas Hasanuddin, explained that the main substance of the Integrity Zone is a tangible change in mindset and work culture. There are two focuses: excellent, complaint-free service and a bureaucracy clean from the practices of Corruption, Collusion, and Nepotism (KKN).
Ishaq Rahman explained that the ZI assessment process is now very strict. In addition to document evaluation, the national assessment team will use desk-evaluation methods (searching for the institution’s digital footprint) and even deploy mystery shoppers—assessors who pose as students, alumni, or guests requesting services.
“The implication is that all of FIB’s positive activities must be actively publicized,” said Ishaq.
This step by FIB is in line with Unhas’s commitment, where three faculties (Public Health, Medicine, and Forestry) have already passed to be assessed at the national level this year. Nevertheless, Ishaq issued a reminder about challenges such as resistance to change and the importance of strong commitment from leadership down to the staff.
The discussion during the socialization was also interactive. Responding to a question about the role of students, Ishaq affirmed that students are not only the primary service recipients but can also play an active role as ‘agents of change’ in overseeing the ZI implementation.
As a follow-up, every area manager at FIB is expected to immediately draft action plans and collect supporting documents in preparation for the assessment scheduled for this coming April.(*)
