FIB Unhas Discusses Public Diplomacy Between Indonesia and Korea

FIB Unhas – “Public Diplomacy, Building Bridges Between Two Nations” was the theme of a public lecture held at the Prof. Mattulada Hall on Saturday (6/9). Mr. Kang Won Joon, the Consul General of the Republic of Korea, mentioned the importance of mutual understanding in bridging communication between nations.

“Let’s together understand the role of public diplomacy in bridging relations between nations and strengthening Indonesia–Korea cooperation,” he said during the public lecture.

The Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Andi Muhammad Akhmar, M.A., expressed amazement at the large number of participants present. “The participants’ enthusiasm is extraordinary, especially since this is held on a holiday,” he noted.

Andi Akhmar mentioned that the relationship between Indonesia, in this case Unhas through FIB, and Korea has been established for a long time. However, it was interrupted due to the pandemic.

“FIB sent lecturers to teach Indonesian language and culture at Hankook University from 2008-2015. It was then continued but halted in 2020 due to COVID,” he added.

This activity is expected to be one of the steps forward in the effort to establish a Korean Language Study Program. “We want this to be one of the drivers for creating a Korean Language Study Program at FIB. This plan has also been approved and supported by the Rector of Unhas,” Andi Akhmar hoped.
