FIB Unhas Highlights the Future of Maritime Tourism Based on Sustainable Technology

FIB Unhas — The Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin (FIB Unhas) held a seminar themed “Maritime Tourism Based on Sustainable Technology” on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Mattulada Hall, FIB Unhas Tamalanrea campus. This activity was open to the public and drew a diverse audience, from academics, students, to observers of maritime and tourism issues.

This seminar aimed to strengthen the understanding of the urgency of applying technology to support the sustainable development of maritime tourism. With Indonesia’s background as an archipelagic nation, this topic is considered relevant and strategic for strengthening the integration between technological progress and the utilization of marine potential.

The discussion was dynamic. Speakers and participants exchanged views on the challenges and opportunities facing the maritime tourism sector in the era of digital disruption and climate crisis. A number of innovative ideas emerged during the Q&A session, including proposals for cross-sectoral cooperation to promote infrastructure and policies that are more adaptive to the changing times.

As a closing, a performance by the local music group Break Chill Times provided a relaxed yet refreshing nuance, making the seminar not only informative but also inspiring. Through this forum, FIB Unhas encourages the growth of cross-disciplinary awareness to see tourism not just as an economic sector, but as a strategic field for the integration of science, technology, and environmental sustainability.
