Journey to Nanchang: FIB Unhas Strengthens 2+2 Program and Explores the Lithium Industry

FIB Unhas — A distance of thousands of kilometers did not deter Hasanuddin University (Unhas) from continuously expanding its academic network on the global stage. From Wednesday to Thursday (May 13-14, 2026), an Unhas delegation visited Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China. This was no ordinary visit, but a strategic step to solidify cross-border collaboration that directly impacts the quality of student education.

The delegation was led by the Vice Rector for Partnership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Business of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phill., alongside the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Unhas, Prof. Dr. A. M. Akhmar, S.S., M.Hum. The first day’s agenda featured participation in a symposium titled “Food Science and Technology Cooperation” at the Nanchang University campus. Amidst the busy schedule, the Unhas leadership held an intensive meeting with the Dean of the School of Humanities, Nanchang University, to finalize the development plans for the 2+2 Program.

A heartwarming moment occurred when Prof. Adi Maulana and Prof. Akhmar took the time to personally visit the students of the Mandarin Language and Chinese Culture Study Program (BMKT) FIB Unhas, who are currently studying abroad through the 2+2 Program in Nanchang. As a token of appreciation, the students presented a handmade souvenir to the Dean of FIB.

“Seeing firsthand the smiles and fighting spirit of our students learning in a foreign land is proof that this partnership is not just a matter on paper, but a tangible step in assembling their future towards a global standard,” stated Prof. Akhmar proudly.

Entering the second day, Thursday (May 14), the focus shifted from classrooms to the real industrial world. The delegation visited the Ganfeng Lithium Industrial Zone, a major lithium producer in Nanchang. This exploration opened new horizons regarding global technological innovation, which is expected to inspire future collaborative research between the academic community and the industrial sector.
