FIB Unhas – The Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence (Satgas PPK) conducted a socialization on the Prevention and Handling of Violence on Friday (26/9). The activity, aimed at the entire academic community of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), took place at the Arsyad Rasjid Lecture theater.
In the activity, attended directly by the Dean of FIB, Prof. Andi Muhammad Akhmar, M.Hum., the academic community affirmed its stance against all forms of violence.
“We see that not all students, lecturers, and educational staff could join this event because some have classes. However, I hope those who came can disseminate the information to those who did not have the opportunity to attend, regarding violence prevention on campus,” he concluded.
The Satgas PPK, represented by the Deputy Chair of the Task Force, Prof. Dr. Ir. Mardiana Ethrawaty Fachry, M.Si., presented some data during her socialization. “FIB is indeed high in [reports of] sexual violence, and the Faculty of Medicine is the highest for bullying cases,” she said.
However, Prof. Mardiana viewed this from a different perspective. She sees that there is an awareness within the community about the importance of ensuring campus safety and comfort. “Don’t always see it as a bad thing. We can also see another perspective, meaning FIB is open and aware enough to report acts of sexual violence,” she explained.
She also warned against any acts of violence that occur but are left unaddressed. “Don’t let someone commit violence while others remain silent; that is not allowed,” she asserted.
She also explained that there are sanctions for perpetrators—whether students, educational staff, or lecturers—if proven guilty. “So there are three sanctions that can be given: administrative sanctions handled by the Task Force, ethical sanctions at the Faculty, and criminal sanctions by the police,” she stated.
In addition to sexual violence, discrimination and intolerance are also a focus for the Satgas PPK. The goal is for Unhas to realize an inclusive campus.
