FIB Unhas – A warm and festive atmosphere with an oriental ambiance enveloped the Prof. Mattulada Hall, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Unhas, on Friday (3/10/2025) morning. For two hours, from 09.00 to 11.00 WITA, the Confucius Institute (CI) Unhas held a Mooncake Festival celebration, a cultural event rich in the meaning of togetherness and gratitude.
This event is one of the most important celebrations in the Chinese calendar, traditionally celebrated at the peak of the autumn season when the full moon shines brightest. More than just enjoying mooncakes, this festival is a moment for families to gather, much like the Thanksgiving celebration in Western countries. This is the context that CI Unhas aimed to present to the academic community.
The celebration was attended by university and faculty leadership, including the Vice-Rector IV of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Eng. Adi Maulana, S.T., M.Phil., as well as the Dean of FIB Unhas, Prof. Dr. Andi Muhammad Akhmar, S.S., M.Hum., along with vice deans, department heads, and several professors. Their presence affirmed full support for cultural diplomacy activities on campus.
In his remarks, the Dean of FIB Unhas, Prof. Akhmar, appreciated CI Unhas for consistently introducing Chinese culture. “Events like this are not just celebrations, but serve as a cultural bridge. Here, our students can directly ‘experience’ the traditions they learn about in class, enriching their learning experience holistically,” he said.
In line with this, the Vice-Rector IV of Unhas, Prof. Adi Maulana, emphasized the importance of such events in strengthening international partnerships. “Cultural interaction is the foundation of a strong partnership. Through this Mooncake Festival, we are not only celebrating but also strengthening the good relations between Indonesia and China through Unhas,” he stated before officially opening the event.
The event, which was filled with various art performances and an explanation of the mooncake’s philosophy, successfully became a cultural gathering that enriched insights and togetherness within the FIB Unhas environment.
